But I can see the reason to be hesitant, at least until the essentials monster book comes out to provide a yardstick.

That said, still totally worth a preview.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14216103531396452644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1678761812929125529.post-52030927231810307332010-10-08T03:56:35.869-04:002010-10-08T03:56:35.869-04:00One note I think should be added to the above is t...One note I think should be added to the above is that Wizards made one other very important decision about the reboot that flies a bit under the radar: they didn't really say the one dead Sorcerer King was dead. His body disappeared and some heroes said they killed him. It leaves open the possibility that something else might have happened or be happening if the group wants it.

Given the painful publishing history of the setting in terms of ramming plot/story down players' throats, this intentional sleight-of-hand over that event is a much appreciated design tactic.

Anyways, I haven't actually picked up the book yet. I've browsed through it electronically and that convinced me to buy it when I can. (Though I would have anyways, given my decade-plus of interest-in and work on the setting.)

I wasn't sure about the monsters book--I almost never pick them up because, meh, more monsters--but you've described it as having something interesting that other monster tomes don't, and that definitely encourages me to grab it.

Except I'm wondering now how useful the book will be mechanically if coupled to Essentials, which I just purchased as more accessible for myself and the kids than the big 4E tomes.Raven Daegmorganhttp://www.daegmorgan.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1678761812929125529.post-58450286264840866692010-10-06T13:59:24.651-04:002010-10-06T13:59:24.651-04:00They have at least one more on the schedule, Raven...They have at least one more on the schedule, Ravenloft. Although the format is going to be a completely stand-alone volume; and I hope it's as impressive and satisfying as Dark Sun.

(As an aside: The Adventure 'Marauders of the Dune Sea' was okay. Not something to write home about, but just enough goodness that it might be worth stealing for other adventure ideas.)Michaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14929843862552324399noreply@blogger.com
